directly related to) Christian traditions of laying out patterns in
cathedral floors that you can walk as proxy for making a pilgrimage.
If you go clear back to the origins, the sacred circle ... marking out
a physical space that is a locus for order and spirit outside of which
is disorder and the profane ... then, yes, they're related. Just very
distant cousins.

Grab a parking lot on a quiet day. Go for it. Lay out votive candles
in all the petals. Tell them you're recreating the rose window in the
Notre Dame Cathedral, and that the great rose (lotus) is a devotion to
the Blessed Virgin.
