Good points, allPosted by Lauren on October 31, 2001 at 16:20:15: In reply to: A note on donations posted by Zimra on October 31, 2001 at 01:54:28: I was listening to a radio show this morning talking about all themoneys going to various WTC-related organizations, and I realized that they're a little flooded right now. What I had in mind was not to donate specifically to those funds, but to the Red Cross general fund which helps those homeless because of wildfires in the Pacific Northwest, hurricanes in the South, collecting blood for everyday emergencies, and other such things. I still think this book is a good idea. Is there another national charity that needs help more right now? I'm not overly picky. In general, I like the idea of acting locally, but in this case, I wanted something that the donating artist would feel come back to their community in time of need. Lauren : Just a note on donations/charities and the WTC etc.: : : The Red Cross can always use the money, but the funds earmarked for : NY and DC (not only to red cross)have topped 500 million. Many local : charities in the US are in severe financial distress or are shutting : down all together due to lack of funds; people are reneging on : donation promises and just flat-out sending their money elsewhere. : Animal shelters and hunger centers/soup kitchens are among those hit : the hardest. : : Fortunately (I think) the Red Cross puts their donations into their : main budget, though they just got rid of their CEO because of : disputes on the dissipation of those funds. : : Zimra
