Just a note on donations/charities and the WTC etc.:

The Red Cross can always use the money, but the funds earmarked for
NY and DC (not only to red cross)have topped 500 million. Many local
charities in the US are in severe financial distress or are shutting
down all together due to lack of funds; people are reneging on
donation promises and just flat-out sending their money elsewhere.
Animal shelters and hunger centers/soup kitchens are among those hit
the hardest.

Fortunately (I think) the Red Cross puts their donations into their
main budget, though they just got rid of their CEO because of
disputes on the dissipation of those funds.
