As usual, I couldn't have said it better myself.

The reasons for avoiding free sites are simple. They either want to
load your site up with advertising, or they can't cope with the 150+
megabytes that the site takes up (of which a third is the forum
archive), or they are just too slow, or they don't give free access
to scripting facilities to permit the forum to stay looking how it
is, or most often a combination of these.

Most of the other forum designs out there are transient. By
maintaining control of the scripts and the site, I can keep the
entire archive on-line. And I can stick with this particular forum
script. Many people have commented that they like the way it works,
when compared with the more modern designs.

Incidentally, for those wondering why the long wait for the new site,
it is getting closer by the day. I've spent well over 150 hours on
the development so far, but I'd rather spend a few more, than leave
any area of the site looking less good than it does now. Most of it
already looks a lot better (in my opinion and that of those who've
had sneak previews).

And for those who've sent in sponsorship money, don't worry. Your
year starts from the day I launch the new site, not the day I
received your cheque.
