I wrote to your site in August of 1999 and said that my skin was raised slightly and itched where the henna was located on my skin. I even had little bumps where the henna was located. And it looked as though I'd been branded. I was advised to see a doctor so I printed the warning from this site and took it with me to the doctor in September. The doctor, told me that darker people (the doctor was Indian and familiar with traditional henna), sometimes react to the henna and what happens is that it turns the pigment darker than normal. She said it could take months for the skin pigment to return to normal. The swelling went down on my arm 2 weeks after I first got the henna. But the pigment of my skin where the henna was located is still very dark (dark brown). People have mistaken it for a real tattoo. Now in December when I went to Tampa and spoke with a henna artists, she told me that a black guy about my complexion, came into her shop, and told her the exact same thing. Except his skin was still slightly raised where the henna was located and his pigment had remained very dark. He'd gotten has henna tatto 2 years ago. Also, the swelling never went down with him. My friend who did black henna with me, on the same day at the same place and the same time, did not have any problems and she is darker then I am. So it must just be my skin. I have not had any problems with my arm since the swelling went down, other then the skin pigment is not returning to its normal color. It does not look like a scar, is not shiny or raised. It just looks like I have a dark brown tatto on my arm. Have you ever heard of this? I did not and now wish I knew of your site before I got black henna this summer. I can not get in touch with the person who did it since they were visiting in a local shop along the boardwalk in Ocean City Maryland. They are no longer employed there, so I have no idea what was in the henna. If I get ahold of a digital camera, I will take a picture and submit it on the site for you to see. It looks really nice, but it was supposed to fade.
