The contrasting color and variations are based upon the specific henna, is it with or without cajeput, is it applied immediately after adding cajeput vs a day after adding cajeput. What I have obtained is a palette of orangey tans, tans, browns and burgandies. I got similar results as you when I varied time. But also, sometimes when I added the second henna over the first...if the first gave a darker color...the darker color was lightened as a result. I think just because the henna is older it is only going to have so much umph no matter what you nuke it with so it can reliably be used as a contrasting color with the newer more potent henna. I have to scrub off and let fade out what I currently have on my hand and arm (my current henna sketch pad and experimental canvas). I have tried so many things in so many places that it is now just a hodge podge of many many designs and patterns. When this goes I will put again something worthy of photographing. I have been terrible at documenting with photos my designs and I really want and need to get better. So maybe this will be my incentive. However, I still don't know exactly how to post a photo so others can see it. Got all of the equipment needed by just haven't tried to sort it all out. I think the missing link is that I have to set up another web site and link from there. Soon as I can get around to all of that I will be able to let you see how this works. Let me know how you are doing getting contrasting shades by varying the time elements or anything else you are doing to get the contrasts. I am so glad that someone else is playing with this too.
