henna from Mexico

I just had a henna tattoo done in Mexico. It's a dark black color and was applied with a bottle that had a tip like a ball point pen. After it dried, there was nothing to flake off. It look pretty good after a week. Now I'm wondering what I actually got. Does anyone have any info on this kind of tattoo? Is it henna or something else?
